6ix9ine first burst onto the scene in 2014 with an immediately identifiable look and sound. His aggressive style of rapping is part of the genre known as “scream rap.”
Although this style was pioneered by rap legends such as DMX, it is not the kind of music that most rappers use in their songs, so 6ix9ine’s willingness to make it part of his style of rapping definitely set him apart from others.

His scream rap found a home at FCK THEM records. It should have been hard for a musician based in Brooklyn to gain fame and wealth from a music label that was based in Slovakia. But having a record label based in another country did not stop 6ix9ine.
Instead, like many rappers of the 21st century, 6IX9INE was able to use YouTube as a platform to launch his career in the United States.
The videos that 6ix9ine released were a mixture of anime clips, video game art, and colorful smoke.
But 6ix9ine always sought street cred as a rapper, and his videos also featured a variety of beautiful women posing suggestively and guns.
The unique look of 6ix9ine’s videos led him to be infamous on the social media site, Instagram, as well as on YouTube.
This early notoriety began to pay off with the success of the song “Gummo,” 6ix9ine’s first commercial success.

The rapper, who also goes by the name Tekashi 6ix9ine, is well-known to attract attention for many reasons that are completely unrelated to his music.
He chooses brightly colored streaks when styling his hair, and the number 69 is tattooed all over his body, including on his face.
The rapper is also well-known for having a growing list of legal problems. It is easy for his legal troubles to overwhelm his contributions to rap.
But beyond all of the controversy, 6ix9ine has developed an impressive career that has raked in millions of dollars.
Early Life
The rapper who would later go on to record under the stage names of 6IX9INE and Tekashi69 was born Daniel Hernandez on May 8, 1996. Hernandez was born in Bushwick, a part of Brooklyn, New York.
Much discussion has centered around 6ix9ine’s ethnicity, with many fans questioning whether he is black or white.
But 6ix9ine’s mother is from Mexico, and his father is from Puerto Rico. 6ix9ine proudly identifies as a Latino, and his household environment allowed him to speak Spanish as a child.

6ix9ine has been proud of his ethnicity. He visited the Dominican Republican after a natural disaster and stated on his Instagram that “Everyone knows me for giving back in my community, BUT as a Latino I feel the need to help my people.” He also visited his mother’s school in Mexico and handed out money.
Young 6ix9ine, his parents and his older brother struggled financially, but the biggest concern for the first 12 years of his life was his asthma.
That changed dramatically when his father was killed when 6ix9ine was only 13.
After the death of his father, 6ix9ine began a spiral towards acting out that would eventually lead him to break the law.

First, he was put into the hospital for both depressions and having Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. His trauma over his father eventually led to his expulsion from 8th grade.
Unfortunately, 6ix9ine took his expulsion as an excuse to drop out of school for good. After leaving school, he did take a few jobs to try to help his mother pay bills.
But ultimately, the need to pay his bills led him to sell both cannabis and heroin. Before his music career even had time to take off, 6ix9ine was arrested for his drug dealing and sentenced to prison.
While serving time at Rikers Island, he became involved with the Bloods gang, specifically the Nine Trey Gangsters subset.

It is alleged that 6ix9ine has been involved with these crimes in and around Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx since 2013.
A conviction would have meant at least 47 years in prison and could have meant life in prison. But 6ix9ine chose to cooperate with the prosecution instead. As a result, 6ix9ine may serve little or no time in jail in exchange for giving testimony about other members of the gang.
For his willingness to cooperate with the prosecution, 6ix9ine has been criticized. Other rappers, such as 50 Cent, Meek Mill and Snoop Dog have called him a “snitch” and questioned his street cred for the action.
