Gucci’s mother was a social worker and teacher and his father worked at a power plant and as a drug dealer after serving in the military. Gucci was raised in a family with strong ties to the military, thanks to his grandfather also serving.

He was always interested in writing and rapping, even creating some songs when he was just a child. He started his rap career at 14.

Unfortunately, he also started dealing drugs around that time and nearly was killed a number of times. He graduated from McNair High School in 1998 with a scholarship to Georgia Perimeter College where he started to study computer programming, but he was kicked out for drug use and dangerous behavior.

Which direction will it be? Left or right? To be firm in that decision you can’t keep looking back. You have to make peace with the past. It doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time for wounds to heal.”
