Early Life

Lil Scrappy was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia as Darry Kevin Richardson II. The 5’10” rapper’s birthdate is January 19, 1984. His single mother Deborah Gaither, raised him and his twelve other siblings.

His mother had six sons and seven daughters. His father left the family before he was born. It was a very tough job to raise all those children alone.

Since Lil Scrappy had such a rough childhood, it comes as no surprise that his academic background would suffer at some level.

Throughout all the challenges, he still managed to finish school and graduate from Military High School. After high school, he did not pursue additional education because his mother couldn’t pay the bills alone.

Lil Scrappy’s mother was very open about her disapproval of the couple’s relationship. The couple separated shortly after the arrival of their daughter. The same year Lil Scrappy moved on, starting a relationship with rapper Diamond.

The couple announced their relationship in 2008, but in time Diamond dumped Scrappy for being disloyal. He then reunited with Erica Dixon in 2011.

In 2012, Lil Scrappy spent time in prison for probation violations. When he tested positive for a drug test in 2013 he was sent to a rehabilitation center and this helped him break his addiction to marijuana.

He started to get back on track with his music, but then he was arrested again for attacking a man who insulted his then fiancé Erica Dixon.

He just recently got married to Bambi Benson in a private ceremony. He presented the information to the world by posting a picture of Bambi on social media via his Instagram page.

Lil Scrappy started releasing mixtapes in 2005. He was first discovered by rapper Lil Jon. He released his debut album “Bred 2 Die, Born 2 Live” on May 5, 2006.

The album had several featured artists such as rappers Olivia, Young Bro, 50 Cent, Yong Joc, Three 6 Mafia, Bohagon, and Lil Jon. Lil Jon actually produced the album. The very first single “Money in the Bank” peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 100 Chart.

Lil Scrappy’s second album “Prince of the South” came out on May 13, 2008. He let his fans know that this time Def Jam Records would handle the album’s distribution. Lil Scrappy stepped over into the acting world in 2009 and made an appearance in the move “just Another Day”.

It was a film about the reality and lives of rappers in the industry. Even though he was busy with a film, he also released a single “Addicted to Money” in the same year. The single unfortunate did not do well ahead of the album.
