Introduction

The artist we all know as Redman is an American rapper, producer, DJ, and actor who was a household name in the early ’90s. You can’t say Redman without mentioning Method Man, who is his best friend and rapping, partner.

Together, they produced and rapped on a number of songs and had starring roles in television shows and movies. Redman was signed with the extremely well-known record label Def Jam and was a part of the Def Squad.

Early Life

The rapper Redman was born Reginald Noble on April 17th, 1970 in Newark, New Jersey to Darlene Noble. She raised him as a single mother.

While not much is known about his childhood and early teens, Redman was expelled from Montclair University during his first year of college due to failing grades. The year was 1987. He didn’t know where else to turn, so he moved back in with his mom.

Unfortunately, Redman got into some bad behavior and started selling drugs. When his mother found out, she immediately kicked him out of her house.

Redman started to get into work as a DJ when he was 18. He was known as DJ Kut-Killa and freestyled over the music he’d play at house parties in the New York area.

It was around this time that he was discovered by Erick Sermon of EPMD. Redman ended up moving in with Erick and joining EPMD on tour.

Personal life

Redman comes from a talented family. His sister, Rosalyn Noble, or Roz is a rapper who has been featured on many of Redman’s songs. His cousin, Tame One, is also a rapper.

Early on in life, Redman had two children from a woman who is no longer in his life. He’s now married to a woman that has been in his life for a very long time.

Her identity is unknown, and nothing is really known about her, except for the fact that she’s raising Redman’s two eldest children as her own. Together, Redman and his wife have three biological children.

Besides his children, Redman loves his pets! When he started having issues with his then four-month-old Pitbull terrier named “Daddy,” he took the dog to television dog trainer Cesar Millan to get help.

Eventually, the dog became closer to Cesar, and he ended up keeping him. The dog was often seen on the show “The Dog Whisperer.”

Favorite Quotes from Redman

“It’s a cold world. You better pack your own heat.”

“Next time y’all need to find me, just rub these two wires for the doorbell.”

“You know what makes me laugh? Good, clean, honest humor. Not the kind of humor where someone is trying to be funny.”

“I can see myself retiring from rapping, but I don’t think from music. After that, I think I’d just go into some other kind of music, ‘cuz I’m a worldwide fan of music, all types of music, all cultures, so I’ll always be involved.”

“Of course, I’m funky like fat people having intercourse. Basically, the funk is stuck in your teeth…so get the dental floss.”

“I love that hip-hop can still provide jobs for people to get money and to put their crew on. I would never say that hip-hop is going down. It’s cool, but it needs an adjustment. I think that hip-hop just needs a little fine-tuning.”

Tips for success from Redman

  1. You can’t rely on anyone else for success. It comes from you. It’s a cold world, so be prepared, get experience, and use the knowledge that you already have to show everyone that you’re a success.
  2. Be yourself. Be funky. Don’t let anyone dull your shine and tell you that you need to fit into what they define as “normal.”
  3. Times change and you have to be adaptable. If you’re working at a job for thirty years, you better learn more about your field and change with the trends of the time.
  4. Follow your dreams even when people tell you they’re impossible. Nothing is impossible.
