Introduction

Brendan Schaub is an American comedian and podcast host who has quite an interesting history: he used to be a mixed-martial arts fighter.

Early on in his life, he was part of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which is better known as UFC. While a part of that organization, he competed on the show “The Ultimate Fighter.

He was an MMA fighter for many years but officially retired from the sport in 2015. At that point in time, he began to launch his comedy career.

However, in 2014, just prior to retiring, he started a podcast called “The Fighter and the Kid.” He now hosts “Below the Belt with Brendan Schaub.”

Early Life

Brendan Peter Schaub is 36 years old. He was born on March 18, 1983, in Aurora, Colorado to Debra and Peter Schaub.

While Peter is American, Debra is from England. Peter obviously had a huge influence on his son, as he practices taekwondo and has a second-degree black belt.

When Brendan was enrolled at Overland High School he played varsity football for one year and even achieved two letters while playing lacrosse.

While he dreamed of going to college on an athletic scholarship, he didn’t receive one. So instead, Brendan tried out for both the football and lacrosse teams at Whittier College. He made both teams.

Before starting his junior year, Brendan transferred to the University of Colorado to play football. He redshirted the first season but did very well.

When he graduated in 2006, he entered the NFL draft but went undrafted. He was signed to the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills but was let go before the regular season started.

At this point, he signed with the Arena Football League’s Utah Blaze. After just a year, he decided to retire from football.

Personal life

Brendan has been with his girlfriend Joanna Zanella for years. They announced that they were engaged in 2017. While there are no rumors that they’ve broken up, there’s been no evidence that they got married yet.

This has led to some speculation that the couple isn’t doing well. The two have a son together, Tiger Pax Schaub, who was born in 2016. They live in Los Angeles.

Before dating Joanna, Brendan dated famous UFC fighter Ronda Rousey for a short time.
Since he’s from Colorado, Schaub is a big fan of Denver-area sports teams, as well as those in Los Angeles and surprisingly the Cleveland Browns.

However, he surprised many people by announcing in 2015 on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast that he was retiring from MMA.

Luckily for Brendan, this was just the beginning of his career. He’d already been co-hosting “The Fighter and the Kid” podcast alongside friend Bryan Callen.

In December 2016, he created his own solo podcast which now is known as “Below the Belt with Brendan Schaub.” He now has another podcast called “The King and the Sting.”

Tips for success from Brendan Schaub

  1. Never give up on your dreams. People tell you that you can only wish for one thing at a time, but if you have the energy, you can pursue multiple things you’re passionate about at one time. You simply have to know when it is time to give up on the ones that you’re not quite as successful at doing.
  2. Networking is key to success. There are some jobs that open up simply because you know the right person. There are some relationships that happen only because a friend of a friend introduced you.
  3. Always be yourself. People will tell you that you’re too much for them, you’re offensive, you’re not enough and plenty of other things. You’re not. You’re you. You should celebrate that, own it and wear your heart proudly on your sleeve.
