Fantasia went to Andrews High School in High Point, North Carolina, but she couldn’t deal with the shame of being raped by a high school classmate so she wound up dropping out and began homeschooling. At the age of 16 Fantasia was pregnant with her first child.

Personal life

From 1998 to 2003 Fantasia was involved with Brandel Shouse. Together they have a daughter named Zion Quari Barrino. From 2004-2005 she dated NFL star Michael Clayton of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2008 she got involved with rapper Young Dro for a short while. A year later in 2009, she got into a relationship with Antwaun Cook.

In late 2011 the singer gave birth to a baby boy named Dallas Xavier Barrino. She did not reveal who the father was.

The album was certified Gold by RIAA and earned Fantasia 3 Grammy nominations in 2008.

In 2008 Fantasia was a guest artist on Jennifer Hudson’s track “I’m His Only Woman”. Fantasia’s third studio album “Back to Me” came out in 2010 and has the single “Bittersweet”, which made it to the top ten of the R&B chart.

This was Fantasia’s fourth album that reached the top ten slots. Two popular singles from this album reached the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart include “No Time For It” which reached number six, and “Sleeping with the One I Love”, which made it to number 9.

In 2017 she released a holiday album called “Christmas After Midnight” through Concord and used her Christmas After Midnight Tour to promote it.

In the fall of 2018 Fantasia performed at Aretha Franklin’s funeral. That following February she joined with Yolanda Adams and Andra Day to pay a special tribute to the late Queen of Soul at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

In 2019 she announced that she was releasing her sixth studio album called “Sketchbook”. The album is her very first independent release and has 14 tracks. It features artists such as Brandy, T.I., Jazmine Sullivan, T-Pain, and Meghan Trainor.

The first single from the album was called “Enough” and it was released in May. It reached number 13 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart and soon peaked at number 9 within only seven weeks of its release.

Fantasia has been involved with a couple of musical collaborations such as “The Color Purple” (2007) and “After Midnight” (2013-2014). In 2013 she won the BOE Global Artist Award.

She says was in a bad place where she didn’t care about anything and just wanted out of this life.
