Fetty Wap was born Willie Maxwell in Paterson, New Jersey on June 7, 1991. He was born with glaucoma in each eye, which required surgery. Doctors were only able to save one eye. After his left eye was removed, he was fitted with a prosthetic.
He was bullied as a child because of his prosthetic eye. This caused him to get in trouble because he fought those that made fun of him. As he became more confident, he would go to school without the prosthetic, which can be seen in pictures and on his second album cover.
