Introduction: The Tenderloins

The four faces of Impractical Jokers bear the troupe name The Tenderloins, bringing laughter and secondhand embarrassment to audiences in the US and UK. Long before their hidden camera comedy show debuted, Sal, Murr, Q, and Joe were high school friends. Attending Monsignor Farrell together, they pursued different career paths before coming back together in 2000. Joe was the one to coin the troupe name The Tenderloins, which originally had two other members before he returned. Impractical Jokers, which has undergone cancellations and renewals due to interest was renewed for an eighth season in 2018.

Interesting Facts

All four of the Impractical Jokers not only went to high school together but performed small roles in sci-fi TV series 12 Monkeys.
They grew up on Staten Island and the pranks for which they are famous have been common bonding practice since they were teenagers.
Along with the show Impractical Jokers, the Tenderloins also have a podcast. They use the second show to test out ideas for their TV sketches.
Murr is often accused of having terrible dental hygiene. He has lost teeth onset and has a total of eight fake teeth with ambiguous origin stories.
Q is not the only one to have had a serious health condition nearly rob him of his career. Sal and Joe were both hit by cars, Sal at the age of four.
Impractical Jokers was originally titled Mission: Uncomfortable. The reason for the name change remains unknown.
The Tenderloins are currently touring in the UK.

Controversey

Q was once arrested in Germany, an admission he’s made on Twitter. In 2009, he lost a tooth in an altercation with the German police bringing him in for disorderly conduct. Q has also been open about his struggles with depression, speaking in phone interviews and on television about how it affected his career.

Impractical Jokers is a show rooted in friends embarrassing friends, sometimes by way of sexist and racist jokes that none of them want to perform. While Q admits that they never push each other too far, sometimes they push the unwitting participants in their show too far. Sal was once slapped for telling a woman her baby was ugly. He was also choked by a man he cut in line on a dare. Neither of these segments were aired, but apologies were quickly issued. The show is earnest in only showing the faces of participants who have signed permissive waivers.

The reactions of the show’s participants are half the experience for the audience. The angriest participants were in the episode “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” where Joe was punished by being forced to take signed Mets baseballs out of the hands of those who caught them. Upon having her child’s signed baseball taken, a mother furiously railed at Joe, leaving the producers lost and confused on how to proceed.

Rumors

In this clip from Sally Jessy’s talk show, Sal “comes out of the closet” in order to encourage Murr to come out as gay. Sal rescinds his outing as soon as Murr comes out. Not much else has been said outside of this article.

Quotes

The following are all quotes the four friends were dared to say on Impractical Jokers with the intention of embarrassing themselves in public. These lines were fed to one by the other three over a microphone:

“It’s a fat Crow, who’s come back from the dead to avenge some donuts that someone ate.” – Q

“Who does a b**** have to kiss around here to get a cream soda?” – Joe

“I need to see how strong your pimp hand is.” – Murr

“Is pumpernickel bread racist?” – Sal
