Introduction

Lil Uzi Vert is a rapper, singer and songwriter who is known for his quirky behavior, trademark face tattoos and his ties to alternative music.

He wasn’t interested in school but knew that he wanted to be a success, so he worked hard and met the right people who recognized his talent. They helped push him into fame. Though he is now retired, Lil Uzi is one of the most well-respected new artists in hip-hop.

Early Life

Lil Uzi Vert is the stage name of rapper Symere Woods, who was born on July 31, 1994. He was born in a North Philadelphia neighborhood called Francisville.

When he was growing up, Lil Uzi’s life was filled with music and it was a big part of his life. Not only did he like listening to popular rappers like the Ying Yang Twins and Mike Jones, but he also loved Meek Mill and Wiz Khalifa.

More surprisingly, Lil Uzi loved listening to alternative artists like Paramore, Marilyn Manson and bands like My Chemical Romance and the All-American Rejects when he was a young teenager.

He started rapping in 10th grade and along with some friends started a group called Steaktown. He dropped out of school and worked at a dollar store but quit after just four days. His mother subsequently kicked him out of the house and that’s when his rap career began.

Career

Lil Uzi Vert’s career started in 2010 when he was working with his own group called Steaktown. It was around this time that his nickname was created. Uzi is a reference to the machine-gun style of his rap beats. Vert is short for vertical, a reference to his climbing success.

His first EP was released in 2014, called “Purple Thoughtz: Vol 1.” This production helped him catch the attention of some big names in the music industry. It helped get his first mixtape, “The Real Uzi” released in August of 2015. At this time, he inked a deal with Atlantic Records.

Favorite Quotes from Lil Uzi Vert

“If you’re you, it doesn’t matter if you’re the most boring person in the world: someone will like you. You’re not trying to be anyone else.”

“There are always people who are into the old way of doing things. I don’t think it’s a bad thing necessarily, but things change – nothing stays the same. If you can stay true to yourself, you’re always going to be legendary.”

“Don’t get me wrong: school is good and all, but school is way too slow for me. Like, super slow. So, I didn’t want to go. I wanted to learn on my own with real-life experiences.”

Tips for success from Lil Uzi Vert

Always be yourself. There’s no point in trying to be someone else or even to be like someone else. Everyone has something special inside of them. Celebrate yours instead of trying to hide it.

Dress for the part you want to play. I want to be a famous rapper, so I dress like one. If you want to be a teacher, or a CEO, or whatever you wish, own it by dressing like you already have the job.

Stop thinking and start doing. Sometimes we overthink when we’re trying to climb the ladder of success. Just go out and do it. Once you’re moving, you’re going to start moving in the right direction.

Define your own success, don’t let others tell you what success looks like. If you’re a singer, maybe winning a Grammy isn’t your top goal. Maybe it’s just to sell an album. This applies to everyone, no matter what it is you want to be successful doing.
