Introduction

Thirty-eight-year-old Mario Mims, now known as “Yo Gotti” had a love for rap since he was a little kid in Memphis. Unlike other kids though, he actually took this passion and made it into a thriving career that started when he was just a teenager.

His life wasn’t always easy, in fact, some would argue that his childhood set him up for failure. He rarely talks about his humble beginnings and when you hear the facts, that comes as no surprise.

From a kid struggling to survive from a rapper who thrives, Yo Gotti hustled and made a name for himself before even signing with a label. Now, after nearly twenty years in the music business, he’s not only surviving but thriving.

Early Life

Mario Mims was born on May 19th, 1981 in Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up and even still has family in the Frayser neighborhood. His father was a fitness instructor and his mom stayed at home.

When Mario was in the third grade, federal agents raided his home and arrested his mom. She was in prison for a number of years while Mario was growing up.

He started hanging out with older kids who started calling him “Yo,” which was a shortened version of “Mario.” In fact, when he first started his career at age 15, he was known as “Lil Yo.” Gotti was added later and is a nod to the notorious New York mobster, John Gotti.

Early on his career, Yo Gotti performed in Memphis with DJ Sound and others, with his popularity growing at each show. The people of Memphis loved Yo Gotti and his crew. Eventually, Yo Gotti released his first song, “Youngsta’s On a Come Up,” which debuted in 1996.

Yo Gotti is rumored to have three other children with another woman named Jammie Morris, but he is very quiet about his personal life.

One of his daughters with Jammie is apparently Youtube sensation De’arra Taylor. There have been reports that Yo Gotti does have other children from another woman. That is not confirmed.

Right now, Yo Gotti is not married. Rumors are circling about who he is dating. Most recently he was connected with a woman named Morticia who lives in South Florida.

She works in finance and prides herself on her high moral standards and her strong Christian faith. Those close to him say that the pair do not have any children.
