Plies was born Algernod Lanier Washington on July 1, 1976. The 5 foot 5 inch rapper is from Fort Myers, Florida. He was raised in an are of Fort Myers called East Dunbar.

As a teenager he went to Fort Myers Senior High School. During his time in high school he played football as a defensive back and receiver. He earned the crown for Homecoming King and he was labeled “Best Dressed” of his class.

When Plies finished high school he went to Miami University and played football for Nod Washington. His football story continued on from 1995-1997.

Eventually, he transferred to the University of Central Florida but wound up dropping out of school.

Legal Issues

In July 2016 Plies got in trouble with the law for illegal possession of a firearm after a shooting took place in Gainesville, Florida. Five people were injured at the event, and Plies was let out of jail once he paid $40,000.

His latest run-in with the law happened in January 2017. He was arrested for DUI in Wesley Chapel, Florida. The rapper declined to take a roadside blood alcohol content test and was immediately taken into custody. Later on that morning, he got out on a $500 bond.

Personal life

Back on October 20, 2003 Plies and his then-girlfriend Brandy Lacole welcomed their son Nijer Lanier Washington. He was born in Tampa, Florida at the University Hospital.

The couple knew each other since 1994 and eventually started dating. No reports ever surfaced of a marriage between the two, but they wound up splitting up in 2007. Today their son is 15 years old,and lives with Plies.

In December 2014 Plies met Lira Galore. They dated for a little while, but they split up in February 2015. Today the rapper is reportedly single with no dating rumors yet.

Career

Plies began rapping while he was still in high school. He went on to college but eventually he dropped out to pursue his dream of becoming a famous rapper and singer. Close to the year 2000 he started a record company with his step-brother Ronnell Lawrence. Their company is called “Big Gates”.

At first Plies avoided rapping but then he wound up working with one of his label’s artists. Soon he signed on with Slip-n-Slide Records and put out quite a few mixtapes.

In 2007 he dropped his single “Shawty”. The song was certified platinum and peaked at number 60 on US Billboard Hot 100. It reached number 12 on US R&B/HipHop, and also made it to the top 2 on US Billboard Rap. Lastly, the song earned an Ozone Award for the Best Rap/R&B Collaboration.

This was a busy year for Plies as he also dropped his debut album “The Real Testament”. Some of the artists featured on this album included Tank, Akon, and T-Pain. In 2008 the 17 track album reached the second slot on US Billboard 200. The second single he released was “Hypnotized”. It was also a hit track.

In 2008 Plies put out two additional albums “Definition of Real” and “Da REAList”. The second album reached number 2 with US Billboard 200. It sold more than 21,000 copies in the initial week. By the end of the year, the album had sold more than 528,000 copies in the US.

His single “Bust It Baby Part 2” featuring Ne-Yo was a great summer hit and reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. His “Definition of Real” project featured artists such as the-Dream, J. Holiday, Trey Songz, and Keyshia Cole.

Plies has put out many singles and mixtapes relating to album number 5 “Purple Heart” such as “Find You”, “Ritz Carlton”, “Ain’t No Mixtape Bh” and “Dayum!”.

He has also worked with other artists on the project including Lil Wayne, K Camp, Keri Hilson, Ashanti, Gucci Mane, Chris Brown, Fat Joe, Ace Hood, Rick Ross, and several more.
