Early Life
Lil Skies was born on August 4th, 1998 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. His real name is Kimetrius Foose. His parents are multiracial, so Lil Skies says he often gets asked what his racial background is.
His parents say that when Lil Skies was just four years old, he started writing his own songs. They were very good considering his age.
This should come as no surprise though because his father Michael Burton, Jr. is also a rapper. His stage name is “Dark Skies,” which is where Lil Skies got the idea for his own name. His father was also the person who introduced him to music and encouraged him to start rapping.

When he was still in elementary school, Lil Skies moved from Chambersburg to Waynesboro. Just a few short years later, his dad nearly died in a chemical explosion while he was working at the Rust-Oleum plant in Williamsport, Maryland.
To work through their very raw emotions about the ordeal, Lil Skies and his dad wrote an album together called “Father-Son Talk” which focused on how they were both recovering from the incident.
In 2016, Lil Skies graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School and then attended Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. That didn’t last long, though. He promptly dropped out to focus on his music.

Lil Skies is very close to his parents and they are a big part of his life, especially now as he is becoming a parent himself. In February of 2019, he announced that his longtime girlfriend was pregnant with their first child.
He’s excited about fatherhood and wants everyone to know that he will be a good role model for the child. Unlike many hip-hop artists who get involved in drugs, Lil Skies says he’s seen too many of his friends ruin their lives with illegal drugs. Because of that, he chooses to stay away from them.

Career
Though he’s technically been in the hip-hop world since about 2012, Lil Skies didn’t make it big or even really get noticed by the public until October of 2016.
At the time, he was attending Shippensburg University and Fetty Wap asked him to open for his concert at the university. Lil Skies happily did and to his amazement, Fetty Wap’s fans loved him.
In January of 2017, Lil Skies released his first mixtape, “Alone.” In July of 2017, he released two songs that quickly gained popularity.
One was “Red Roses,” featuring Landon Cube, and the other was “Off the Goop” which included verses from rapper Sprite Lee. A few months later he released the singles “Signs of Jealousy” and “Rude.”
In 2018, he signed with Atlantic Records and released his first studio album, “Life of a Dark Rose.”
The album made it all the way to number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. Besides “Red Roses,” which made it on the Billboard Hot 100, his song “Nowadays” also became a smash hit, reaching number 55 on the Billboard Hot 200.
It led to his national tour with Lil Uzi Vert and then his own “Life of a Dark Rose Tour” in 2018. Unfortunately, that tour was cut short because Lil Skies got sick.
“Lust” was the third single released from the “Life of a Dark Rose” album and it did quite well. It made it to number 87 on the Billboard Hot 100, was certified gold by the RIAA and gained Lil Skies fame he’d never seen before.
Following that, he released an even more popular single, “I Know You,” which peaked at 79 on the Billboard Hot 100.
His latest album was just released in March of 2019. It is called “Shelby.” The lead single is “I” and the music video are already available online.
