Move to Maryland

When he was 12, Lawrence’s family moved back to the Washington, D.C. area. His father left the military and became a police officer. The family lived in Landover, Maryland, a suburb of Washington.

A few years later, his parents divorced.

As a teenager, Lawrence was an excellent boxer who competed in Golden Glove tournaments.

He considered a boxing career at first but changed his mind after he suffered a serious eye injury. He then decided to focus on comedy and acting.

Move to New York

While he was in his 20s, Lawrence moved to New York City to pursue a career in comedy. He managed to get appearances at the Improv and other major clubs.

Personal and Legal Troubles

Lawrence has had several highly publicized personal issues. In 1995, during the filming of A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Lawrence flew into a violent rage and ended up in the hospital.

In 1994, he was a guest host on Saturday Night Live. During his monologue, he started rambling in particularly vulgar language. Saturday Night Live aired the program after removing his monologue.

Lawrence became the only guest to be permanently barred from the show.

In 1996, he was seen waving a pistol while walking through a busy Los Angeles intersection and screaming, “They’re all trying to kill me!”

A year later, he was in trouble again for punching another man in a nightclub.

In 1999, he was jogging in 100-degree heat when he collapsed. When he was found, emergency workers noted that he was wearing several layers of heavy clothing. He almost died from heat stroke.

Martin has been married twice and has three children. He was married to Patricia Southall, the former Miss Virginia. They had a daughter named Jasmin Page.

Lawrence and Will Smith have announced that they will star in the final installment of the Bad Boys franchise, Bad Boys for Life.

The first Bad Boys, which was directed by Michael Bay, opened in 1995. Bad Boys 2 followed in 2003. Together, both movies made over $400 million worldwide.
