Cannon’s father owned a local cable access station in San Diego. When he was 8, Cannon began making appearances with his father. At the age of 11, he had his own comedy show on the station.

In 2009, Cannon received his biggest hosting gig when he was asked to take over on the CBS show America’s Got Talent. The show enjoyed great ratings with Cannon as the host.
In early 2017, Cannon made several remarks criticizing CBS during his Showtime comedy special. He also said that he would be leaving the show. Later that year, CBS confirmed that Cannon was leaving. Tyra Banks took over as host of the show.
