Tamarack Mine

The following year, he opened his own mining operation called Tamarack Mine. He, his wife Minnie and his three children all went to work prospecting and mining.

In a 2018 interview, his daughter Monica said that her father believed women could run any machine that a man could, but he always insisted that only men pick up or move the really heavy machinery.

She described him as a mix of “old-fashioned and progressive” and added that she greatly admired his work ethic and his ability to stay focused on the job he was doing despite setbacks and frustrations.

In 2010, the hard work and success of this family came to the attention of executives at the Discovery Channel. They met with Beets and discussed the possibility of his appearing on the Gold Rush reality show. He has been on it ever since.
