Career

Starting Young

She and her sisters began performing at an early age with four of her sisters. The group sang pop, R&B and gospel music.

As the Braxtons, they were offered a record deal, but they never achieved major commercial success.

Their first and only album, So Many Ways, came out in 1996. It did not produce any hit singles. Around that time, their older sister Toni Braxton was offered a recording contract as a solo singer.

The record executive who signed the deal said he was not looking for a “girl group” at the time, because he had just signed TLC.

Sister’s Success

Toni Braxton went on to a phenomenally successful solo career and is regarded as one of the iconic R&B singers of the 1990s.

Toni Braxton released a number of chart-topping hits and toured nationally and internationally.

The other sisters worked as Toni Braxton’s backup singers during her live shows and music videos. They were also chief sources of support during her divorce and her diagnosis with lupus.

The Braxtons also served as the opening act for Toni Braxton’s European tour in 1997. The group split up when sister Tamar, who was the lead singer, left to pursue a solo career in 1998.

Trina had always had an interest in acting, and in 2004 she was cast in the Tyler Perry play Meet the Browns. She played Deena Jones in an off-Broadway production of Dreamgirls.

Reality Television

In 2010, television executives approached the Braxton sisters about a reality show based on their lives together.

At first, Toni Braxton was reluctant to take part, saying that she wanted at least some of her life kept out of the public eye.

The other sisters prevailed, however, and Braxton Family Values debuted in 2011.

The first season, it was the top-ranked reality show on WE TV, and the network ordered a second season of the show after just the third episode.

Favorite Quotes From Trina Braxton

“Growing up, we had a lot of fun as sisters. We made our own videos, we made our own songs, we even made up our own television shows. We were all girls, and we only had each other. Our father was a minister, so we were not allowed to go to other people’s houses or anything like that. We only had each other to play with, and we made it fun.”

“Let me tell you something, I work out, I do. I work out every day. However, if I find that there is something I need to change or enhance, then I would have no qualms about doing plastic surgery. I would have zero qualms about that.”
