Early Life

Born on May 13, 1961, Dennis Rodman grew up in Trenton, New Jersey. He is the son of Philander and Shirley Rodman. His father left the family, including Rodman and his two young sisters.

Rodman reunited with his estranged father in 2012. According to father, Rodman has many more brothers and sisters. His father claims that he fathered up to 28 children.

Reports of the number of Rodman’s siblings differ according to the source as Rodman himself claims to be the older of 27 children. To support the family, his mother hold multiple jobs at the same time.

During his children, his sisters, Debra and Kim, showed more potential than Rodman did, showing him up across the board.

At only 5’6 as a high school freshman, Rodman struggled to hit a layup in basketball and was often buenched or cut from squads.

He was not considered an athletic student with a bright future in any sport. It was only devastated him that he did not make the football team.

His sisters went on to become All-Americans at Louisiana Tech and Stephen F. Austin. Rodman claims that living in a all-women household was overwhelming during his youth.

After graduating high school, he worked as an overnight janitor at the Fort Worth International Airport in Dallas, Texas, which is the time when he experienced an extreme growth spurt.

This inspired him to try basketball one more time. He was later recruited to play basketball at the college level.

Personal life

Rodman had his first child, Alexis, with his first wife, Annie Bakes in 1988. The couple divorced a few years later. Then, Rodman married model and actress, Carmen Electra, in 1998 at Las Vegas, Nevada.

The two made headlines as Rodman wore a white wedding gown during a book signing. However, the couple divorced in April 1999. During that year, he met Michelle Moyer and had a son with her, Dennis Junior, the next year.

He also had a daughter, Trinity, in 2001. The couple married in 2003 when Rodman turned 42. However, Michelle filed for divorce in 2004. Afterwards, the couple tried to reconcile their marriage for the eight years that followed.

His career is truly a Cinderella story. Rodman went from not being able to do a layup to being revered as one of the best rebounders to have done it in the NBA.

Rodman played for the Detroit Pistons from 1986-92, San Antonio Spurs from 1992-95 the Chicago Bulls from 1995-98, the Los Angeles Lakers in 1999 and the Dallas Mavericks.
