Early Life

T.I. was born as Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. on September 25, 1980 in Alabama to his father, Clifford “Buddy” Harris Sr. and his mother, Violeta Morgan.

His grandparents played a large role in raising him as his father resided in New York City. His father also suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and later died.

T.I. started rapping at eight years old. He attended Douglass High School, but he eventually dropped out, which he mentions in his song, “Still Ain’t Forgive Myself.”

It was during this time that he acquired the nickname “Rubber Band Man,” which was a reference to wearing rubber bands around his wrists, symbolizing wealth from drug dealing.

In 1996, the young man started showing interest in hip hop, befriending local rapper, Big Kuntry King. They sold mixtapes out of the trunk of their car.

He later signed to Ghet-O Vision Entertainment and then LaFace records in 1999 where he dropped the “p” in his “Tip” nickname to avoid getting confused with his label mate rapper, Q-Tip.

Personal life

T.I. started a relationship with his now wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle in 2001 when she was a former of the popular R&B group Xscape, and he was an upcoming, young rapper in 2001.

They married in 2010 in Miami. T.I. has eight children in total. He has two sons with Lashon Dixon and a daughter with R&B singer, Ms. Niko. T.I. has one stepdaughter with his wife.

Additionally, Tameka gave birth to three children with T.I, including two boys and one girl. All of the children have been featured on their reality TV show, The Family Hustle.

Tameka filed for divorce in 2016. However, the couple reconciled shortly after. T.I. is also known for punching the World Boxing Champ, Floyd Mayweather, after he accused him of having an inappropriate relationship with his wife, Tameka.

A video of Tameka and Floyd dancing at a Mariah Carey party appeared online, sparking controversy prior to the fight.

Career

The southern rapper signed his first major label record contract with LaFace in 2001, and later founded his own a hip hop group later that year.

When he was released from LaFace, he was signed by Atlantic Records, becoming the lead of his own label imprint in 2003.
